In Memoriam: Udo Kier

Udo Kier

It is with great sadness that we share the news that legendary German actor Udo Kier, one of the most iconic faces of world cinema, has passed away.

In his amazing career, he appeared in over 270 films, from low-budget horror and erotic films to celebrated arthouse films and Hollywood blockbusters. He collaborated with directors such as Dario Argento, John Carpenter, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Werner Herzog, Lars von Trier, Wim Wenders, Gus van Sant and Paul Morrissey.

Fans of horror and fantastic cinema will always remember him for his unforgettable roles in films such as Mark of the Devil, Flesh for Frankenstein, Blood for Dracula, Shadow of the Vampire and Iron Sky. He was also brilliant in numerous arthouse films (Lili Marleen, Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, Melancholia, My Private Idaho…) and Hollywood blockbusters (Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Armageddon, Blade, End of Days…).

In 2015, he was also the guest of honour at Grossmann Festival, where he received our Honorary Vicious Cat award and graced us with his immense energy and wit. Sadly, we won’t be able to meet again, but he will always stay with us in his films and keep on bringing joy to new generations of film lovers.
